The Recording Academy-Chicago Chapter
Sarah Mudler- Project Manager "Marcella offers something different than the monotony of today's oversaturated music scene. This unique alternative rock band creates songs full of uplifting piano parts, and gritty, layered vocals. Their style is hard to pinpoint, but it's original and imaginative, and a must-listen." Sheperd-Express Brian Barney- Oct 26th "Many have compared vocalist Anna Marcella, of the Milwaukee band Marcella, to Fiona Apple, and the comparison is an apt one. Her sultry vocal style and prowess behind the keyboards are already giving her a diva-like status in the area. The band has only been together since 2005, but the buzz is beginning to grow. Their most obvious influences, artists like Tori Amos and Fiona Apple, are complemented by a sound and style that has evolved from a reverence for a wide range of artists such as Portishead and the Beatles. The band’s tight, well-crafted originals banter between ballad and straight-ahead rock, creating a constant ebb and flow that showcases the band’s diversity while keeping the audience interested and anticipating what will come next." A quick-paced drum and hard, choppy guitars set the mood for a catchy, rock song with an edge. Instead, a voice with a tone that's more like Norah Jones or Tori Amos than the traditional alternative vocalist launches into a melodic and emotional tune. On paper, these two things shouldn't go together. But on the ear, it works perfectly. Anna's beautiful voice and powerful keys are the backbone of a great up and coming band that deserves recognition and respect." |
